"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -- Benjamin Franklin

Welcome to my online portfolio. I am Julie McHam and I have spent most of my career writing software documentation, emergency planning guides, grant proposals, and training materials. A few of my memorable accomplishments include:

  • Designing a context-sensitive online help system for an Enterprice Resource Planning (ERP) Web application used by school districts.
  • Writing and submitting a Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) grant proposal, for which $247,000 was awarded.
  • Developing training materials for programmers transitioning from structured programming to object-oriented techniques.

Learning is My Passion
I am passionate about learning and helping others learn how to do their jobs more effectively. I completed a Master of Science program in Instructional Design and Technology at the California State University in Fullerton. This program emphasizes the application of learning theories to digital learning platforms. My Master's Project, Designing Effective Multimedia E-Learning Tutorials in the Workplace, explored the best practices of instructional design to incorporate into e-learning products. I incorporated some of these best practices into online help systems that I have designed.

Personal Life
On a personal level, I enjoy reading, being in nature, spending time with my furry children, and continuing my education. I enjoy English, History, and courses that help me to stay up to date with changes in information technology.
